We want all children to benefit from and enjoy our services
.
We will do this by:
- Providing a free and wide ranging service for all children and young people
- Providing an extensive collection of good children's literature
- Providing books on CD, cassette and large print through our exciting Dazzling Stories Collections
- Providing teenage collections tailored at the older young person
- Providing a programme of events which promote our library service to Primary Schools
- Promoting the library service to Secondary Schools
- Providing free access to computers for all young people and with free internet for all (children under 11 will require adult supervision)
- Developing and promoting homework clubs
- Establishing an exciting and stimulating under 5's programme
- We will endeavour to encourage full use of library services to promote reading and literacy by:
- Establishing and developing Children's and Young People Focus Groups
- Working with parents and carers
The primary role of the
Childrens Champion is to encourage the young people to become active readers and members of the library.
Rotherham Library Service is committed to making libraries accessible to
Under 5's across the borough.
In many of our branches Homework Clubs are run by staff who know how to get the best out of the information services available to help young people with their enquiries.
Online Homework Help resources for children are published on the Rotherham Online web site.
Interactive clubs
Interactive clubs are provided in three of our local libraries Kimberworth Park, Maltby and Mowbray Gardens where young peoples learning is enhanced through IT. Supported learning can be arranged to enable individual young people achieve.
Looked After Children
If you are a foster carer registered with the Council you can have a Carer's Ticket that will enable you to introduce the children you look after to the library and borrow books for them to share in your home.
In the
Schools Library Service we have around 130,000 books for all school age children. This includes non-fiction on all subjects, fiction, poetry and picture books.
