Rotherham Archives and Local Studies Service collects, preserves and provides access to documents covering all aspects of life within the Metropolitan Borough of Rotherham. We can help you to trace your family history, discover the history of your village or house, find out how your local area looked in the past and much more...
The Archives and Local Studies Service is open to all and you do not need to be a member to use the facilities. The Archives and Local Studies search room is located on the 1st floor of Rotherham Central Library. Readers wishing to use a microfilm reader or one of the computers are advised to book in advance.
We first began collecting archives and local studies material in 1880 when the Borough Council first established a library service. In 1986 the Archives and Local Studies Service was established within the Central Library.
For information on how we collect material, including how to donate or bequeath material,
see the
Collecting Material page.
