Your Social Care Record

The information we collect about you, your child, and your care needs is personal and is treated in confidence. We ask for information about you and your family to help us assess and arrange appropriate services for you and your child. The information is also used to keep a record of any help provided (e.g. home care services, family support) and assist us in making decisions to support, care and protect vulnerable people in need, children and adults.

What you can expect from us

Everyone working for Rotherham Borough Council's Social Services has a legal duty to keep information about you confidential.

We keep your information safe at all times, in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998, the Human Rights Act 1998 and common law.

Anyone who receives information from us is also under a legal duty to keep it confidential.

The rules are in place to protect both the service user and staff from breaches of confidentiality but they are not applied so rigidly that they are impractical to follow or detrimental to the care of you or your family. Sometimes a judgement has to be made about the balance between the duty of confidence and what is in the best interests of the individual.

The personal information you provide may be shared within our organisation and with other agencies involved in providing you with services. Wherever possible with will obtain your consent before sharing your information, however, in some circumstances, the law requires us to share information for other purposes, for example the protection of children and vulnerable adults.

The Social Services Caldicott Guardian is responsible for ensuring that appropriate systems and procedures meet the legal requirements, confidentiality is maintained and that information is disclosed and shared appropriately.
