Neighbourhood and Adult Services Transport operates a fleet of 81 vehicles which include 32 light vans and 24 Cars. These vehicles are used within the various services provides to the community ,for example Wardens, RotherCare, Meals on Wheels, Luncheon Club and Equipment deliveries.
There are also 24 passenger vehicles, 18 of which have low floor, ramp or lift making them accessible to all service users. The remaining 6 vehicles are used to transport our more ambulant passengers. These vehicles convey passengers from Elderly, Learning Disability, Physical and Sensory impairment. Passengers are conveyed to and from various Day Care facilities through the Borough.
Through out the year Neighbourhoods and Adult Services in-house transport provides the following:
- 5,300 meals on wheels delivered every week (275,00 per year)
- 776 bags of Laundry collected per week ( 40,352 per year)
- 1620 passenger journey's are made each week ( 77,760 per year)
- 80 courier collections per week (77,760 per year)
- 60 luncheon Club deliveries are made each week ( 3120 per year)
- The total in-house transport activity per is 7836 journeys per week (400,392) per year.
Neighbourhoods and Adult Services in - house transport operates 365 days per year and with in any one week transport services has a direct impact on a minimum of 3,860 people of all ages and disabilities across the whole of Rotherham. This number excludes the people within the individual organisations i.e. the Hospice, Education.
The Service is located close to the town centre and has two transport officers on- site to manage the day to day operations of the service. One person has responsibility for the passengers and the other for the freight element, both officers are fully conversant with each others roles and provide support to each other as and when required. This provides continuity in maintaining service provision. The officers report directly to the Group Manager for Central Services.
Neighbourhoods and Adult Services transport is also involved within the Councils emergency planning procedure to provide the passenger transport to a safe location and to assist in the transporting of emergency equipment and supplies. Adult Services transport is also responsible for the delivery of food and drink to the emergency evacuation centres and to the emergency crews working on-site.
The Service works in partnership with Education to transport school children to Swimming Pools and also with the delivery of school meals.
In an attempt to provide further information to our customers we are currently developing a newsletter to be available in the near future, giving information on current services and further developments.
