Community Economic Development

The Rotherham Investment & Development Office (RIDO) is the regeneration arm of the  Council. RIDO seeks to develop and regenerate the local economy and community. The key objectives are to facilitate employment and business growth in the borough and to secure and manage the funding to bring about economic and community regeneration.

The overall aims of RIDO are to:

  • encourage local business growth and diversity, including the formation of new ('start-up') businesses and the provision of serviced sites for business development.
  • promote the borough to attract new and sustainable business and commercial investment;
  • promote the borough as a visitor destination and conference venue;
  • maximise funding opportunities to assist infrastructure and site development;
  • encourage the development of skills among local people to equip them to compete in the changing job market and to ensure the workforce meets the skill needs of existing and new businesses;
  • regenerate Rotherham town centre. See This is an internal link icon. Rotherham Urban Renaissance;
  • assist in the regeneration of our market towns, villages and former mining communities;
  • provide technical funding advice to community and voluntary groups seeking external support for their projects.

The Council encourages both competition and sustainability in all areas of the local economy. RIDO actively promotes the area, provides a range of services to businesses relocating to or expanding in the borough, offers business support, including bespoke premises and advice to start up businesses, makes sites available for development and strives to remove barriers to investment and to work.

Local residents and communities focus heavily in the work of RIDO, which carries out improvements to the local physical infrastructure and services, particularly in association with the Council's housing arm, Rotherham 2010 Ltd.
