What we do
Our Animal Health Inspectors enforce a wide range of legislation designed to protect the health and welfare of both domesticated and wild animals.
The main duties include:
- Protecting the welfare of animals at farms, in transit and at livestock markets/animal gatherings
- Prevention, control and eradication of notifiable animal diseases such as foot and mouth
- Ensuring that animal movements can be traced to safeguard human and animal health from transmitted diseases
